Hello, I am Helen, an experienced tutor with 20 years of dedication to the Primary sector. I am a qualified educator with a strong foundation in both Education and Psychology, holding a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Throughout my career, I have taught children across the age ranges from early years to Year 6, providing effective tutoring that meets the needs of every student.
I have taught in both state and private schools, building a wealth of experience and a diverse range of teaching approaches. I have served as a Lead Teacher in a small Primary School and have been a subject leader in Mathematics, Science, and Outdoor Learning. This breadth of experience equips me to be an effective English & Maths tutor, capable of delivering tailored tuition to enhance student learning.
In 2022, I decided to transition from classroom teaching to become an online tutor to improve my work-life balance while continuing to support students. Since then, I have been tutoring English and Mathematics in homes, schools, and online, helping young students achieve their full potential, including preparation for Year 6 SATs and 11+ entrance exams. My teaching philosophy is guided by the values of inspiring, engaging, and challenging my students through interactive tutoring.
I have a solid understanding of the educational needs of students, particularly in developing their English and Mathematics skills. I believe in addressing the social and emotional needs of students as well. A holistic view of learning creates the most success, which is why I focus on providing a comprehensive learning experience. In July 2023, I completed the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health NCFE, further enriching my capability as a tutor.
As an educator, I successfully teach many neurodiverse children, including those who are disengaged from learning. Between 2022 and 2023, I worked as a Teacher Caseworker for the National Teaching and Advisory Service. In this role, I taught young people who were not in mainstream education but were educated in the community, further diversifying my tutoring experience.
My approach has always been to involve students in real-life experiences wherever possible, so that learning is relevant and meaningful. I provide a bespoke learning package tailored to an individual’s learning needs. I believe in integrating English and Mathematics skills with fun and engaging activities such as board games, cooking, and art.
I possess strong pedagogical knowledge, a comprehensive understanding of educational psychology, and effective teaching methodologies tailored to diverse learning needs. With a proven ability to teach and improve students' competencies in both subjects, I have a track record of successful student outcomes as an English & Maths tutor.
I am a positive and confident practitioner driven to succeed. My approach to learning is infectious, and I strive to inspire, engage, and challenge my students. I consider myself fortunate to have a vocation that positively impacts young learners and makes a difference in their educational journeys.
I have a portable enhanced DBS check, and my safeguarding training is updated yearly. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for GDPR compliance, ensuring that I maintain the highest standards in all aspects of my tuition services.
